Why cant i open email thru yahoo messenger?

when i open yahoo messanger it will alert me if i have email when i click in it to open my mail it does nothing. like it doesnt even aknowlage i clicked it. Help it is soooo annoying.

Answer:
Once you sign onto messenger click messenger top left then preferences. On the general section check to see if you have the "When I'm using Yahoo Messenger section about other link unchecked. If you do check the box then o k what did & exit preferences.
