There two type of license you can take as your 17, You have restricted license which allows you ride any bike any size but must be restricted to 33bhp... Or you have take a lightweight test which means you can ride a 125 without L plates and you can carry passengers... Now order to do this,,, You must take a CBT and then a Theory test and you have to take two practical tests. Module one is in a purpose built car park for the DVLA that you have perform all the manoeuvress Figure of 8 U turns slow riding and emergency stop and swerve test...once you pass that you have do module 2 which is taken on the road with a examiner following you Training differs from place to place.. I did mine over 3-4 months and did full days when I was free..which included CBT and then training on a 125 for a few then I jumped up on 500 for a few

Hi, Obviously firstly you need your drivers licence. You can apply on line here - http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/Motoringtransactions/BeforeyouapplyA/DG_10032690 Or collect application forms from the post office. Cost £50 With your drivers licence you will then need to complete a Compulsory Basic Training day to obtain the CBT certificate which with your licence allows you, at 17, to ride up 125cc motorcycles. You must have Insurance, if required MOT and the bike must have L plates but all this will be explained on your CBT course.http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/LearnerAndNewDrivers/RidingMotorcyclesAndMopeds/DG_4022430 The CBT certificate lasts for two years and the training day costs between £90 -£120 depending where about in the country you are. Before you can take the practical motorcycle test you must take, and pass, the theory test. Cost £31. Information about which will be found here - http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/LearnerAndNewDrivers/TheoryTest/index.htm The practical test is now divided into two parts. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/LearnerAndNewDrivers/PracticalTest/DG_178328 explains what the tests consist of. Your chosen riding school will explain all on CBT day. Module 1 costs £15.50 Module 2 costs £75 Further costs are obviously your training, about £120 a day, and all the motorcycle clothing you will need. I have found this site - http://www.begin-motorcycling.co.uk/index.htm explains it all more fully, and logically, than I can here. You will also find a list of trainers in your area within the site.
