I had this happen a few weeks ago. The key was in the third position and the steering wheel locked up, which also kept the key in places. What I did to get it out ten minutes later was keep jiggling the key in every direction and then try to turn it to get it out. Eventually, if you just keep pushing harder, the wheel will unlock and the key should be free. Hopefully this helps, and I'm sorry if it doesn't.
