What is the best way to market foreign product?

What is a good way to market a really good product in a highly competitive market?

  • Me and a couple of people around me have developed something that's incredible. I'm not going to say on here what it is for obvious reasons. I'm sorry about that but I'm sure you guys understand. The product has been years in the making and it's used already by several companies who have been extremely satisfied with it. It really is better by a long shot than what the competition has to offer. If you compare it to their products, there's a revolutionary difference. Quite frankly, our product blows theirs out of the water. I would compare it to the first iPhone. It wasn't the first touch-phone, there were other touch-phones around, but the iPhone was just ten times better in every way to its competition (back then). It was a game-changer. The problem is, our competition is ahead of us in terms of how well-known they are, and also in terms of marketing budget. We have a relatively small budget for this, because we're a small company. So in short: -We're a small business in a world of big businesses -We have an amazing product that's a lot better than what the competition has to offer -The competition is much bigger and more powerful than us -They out-budget us on every front, including marketing What would be a good strategy to market it? How would you guys do it?

This can be a little bit of a loaded question because the answer really depends on testing what works best for your specific market or product. I wouldn't worry too much about your competitor or their budget. Organic growth is not something they can take away from you once they realize your product is "better". I would focus on simple and inexpensive ways to market, such as PR releases, demos, a functional landing page, newsletters, incentives for current clients to refer more business, etc. Then take note of all the metrics you see and customize your message and marketing strategy to fit that data. For example, if you see lot of web traffic for the landing page but not many people signing up for your newsletter, it may be wise to focus on where the traffic is. These are all things that work and don't have to be expensive. They key is trial and error while bootstrapping. Lastly, I suggest you put some major focus on the sales side, instead of putting all your eggs in the marketing basket. I have found that cold calling/emailing is easily the most effective way to gain awareness and get new business. Set up a time when you can do nothing but reaching out via cold calls/emails. A good goal is to try and reach 100 companies or people per week (15-30 calls/day) and at the end of the month, measure what is most successful (cold calls, emails, PR releases?).
