How much emphasis do they put on High School grades?

Personal Goals: Should there be less emphasis on grades in college and high school education?

  • The background behind this question : 1.) a lot of people have educational qualifications, but they can't get jobs 2.) Different countries have different systems of qualifications, so if you want to move to an educational institution in a different country, you may sometimes need to re-learn things that you already know, because the piece of paper which certifies your knowledge can't be officially recognised. 3.) There is still a lot of emphasis on educational grades in many aspects of society, so students sacrifice an enormous amount of their time to achieve those grades. That time could be better used to learn about other aspects of life

  • Answer:

The big picture is that the middle class is fading slowly into the lower class. This is due to less good jobs available.

The short answer is yes.  Grades are only a very limited measure of what, or even how well, someone has learned something.  Very limited.  The focus should be on the learning, the development of the skills involved in the lessons, and developing as ma decent, rational human.  That's hard to measure though, harder still to quantify and communicate to others who would want to know.
