How much should I charge for an Android app in India?

Would it be a violation of privacy if one collects GPS coordinates, via an app on a smartphone (such as Android) in India?

  • Assuming the terms and conditions explicitly states that, we would be doing so when one uses the app. Each country has its own privacy laws and this question is specifically targeted towards India.

  • Answer:

Nowhere is this illegal. If your app asks for the GPS data and the customer agrees to share it (as a requirement for using the app, most likely), then you have gotten around the main hurdle: needing permission. Privacy problems arise when you collect this sort of thing without permission. That is where it is legal or not, depending on the country. Now, what you can do with that data is still subject to local laws. But this question only asks about the collecting. Also note, your app can only collect while the GPS is turned on and all phones have manual override by the user to turn that off. Also, I don't believe that Android allows GPS-allowed apps to be running except when launched by the user. You can't auto-launch at start up. So in just about every case, the user is opt-in for sharing this data.
