Moving to Phoenix, AZ from Chicago, IL, good idea?

I've been thinking of moving to Arizona for 2 years now and I would like to know where are the best and affordable areas to live in Phoenix or near the Phoenix area?

Do you have a job offer there? Know how you run from the freezing cold/snow to get inside your car/house/office/etc. in winter in Chicago? You'd be doing that in the summer in Phoenix - running to get to air conditioning and escape the > 100-degree heat. From someone who lived there, I heard that no one goes outside in Arizona in the summer unless it's absolutely necessary.

The two are very different places. The choice is up to you. Phoenix is HOT!!! Chicago is NOT. They don't call it the Windy City for nothing. Both places are great for a short time. Jim
