Are you good at recycling? Have you taken your lead from anyone in this respect?
-
The City of York Council have achieved 77% recycling of unwanted goods last week. Aren't they and Ed. Miliband to be congratulated for their recycling of flotsam and jetsam?

Answer:
I think you will find that it costs more to recycle than it does to produce and that it's again the taxpayer footing the bill. Our Local dump used to be run by 1 man and you could help yourself to any item you pleased. Now it's like a fortress with 5 staff .total rebuild.More cameras than the local bank. Cost effective I think not. Just more jobs invented by the save the planet Brigade.

I gave up. Reason being started with the black bin for household, then we got a green bin for recycleable only, not glass though which has its own small black box. Then we got a red bin for cardboard. Oh and green sacks for garden waste. One watched them come to pick the stuff up on a couple of occassions and was amazed as it all went into the SAME truck. Over here at the undisclosed location different problem very little rubbish left which generally ends up having to be driven by me muggins to local tip.

Hi Helen! Yes and No. All my Paper goes in the tall bin, yet for Glass and Plastic we have a stupid Green Box, which is full after a week yet only gets emptied every fortnight. So, for the second week all that should go in there goes in the tall "General Waste" Bin, and not having a Car, Batteries and any Electrical Stuff goes in there as well. This is Wakefield MDC, and with Yvette Cooper and her poodle Husband living off the fat of the Taxpayers' Land, welcoming more EU legislation, and Milliband just wearing long trousers, why should they be congratulated? There is no scientific proof that Landfill was a bad thing, so bring it back I say!

I do my best although the local guidelines are pretty vague. Still, I didn't have a problem knowing where to put the Tory & LibDem Manifestos from the last election!!!

yes, I've been recyclling for ages. I'm glad we have more bins now though, so I don't have to take it to the tip as much (still take some things). I knew loads of people that couldn't be bothered before we had the bins. I always take old toys and clothes etc. to charity too.

Yes I do, here in the states. Mostly plastic, glass and aluminum. However, I ALWAYS recycle glass... here's why: 1) A glass bottle that is sent to a landfill can take up to a million years to break down. By contrast, it takes as little as 30 days for a recycled glass bottle to leave your kitchen recycling bin and appear on a store shelf as a new glass container. 2) Recovered glass from glass recycling is the primary ingredient in all new glass containers. A typical glass container is made of as much as 70 percent recycled glass. 3) Making recycled glass products from old glass consumes 40 percent less energy than making new glass from raw materials. 4) Glass containers are 100-percent recyclable, which means they can be recycled repeatedly, again and again, with no loss of purity or quality in the glass. 5) Glass is one of the easiest materials to recycle.
Yeah that's good. Myself I've become a nitpicker at recycling not because I think it will do any good. Personally I think the planet is past the point of no return on that matter. But the reason why has nothing to do with the bully tactics of the "Politically Correct" rather my studies of the Bible. Yep ... the Bible; I figured we are the stewards of this planet and we have to "individually" do the best we can. My contribution isn't going to straighten out our ecological disasters we've brought upon ourselves but at least God can see I've turned a leaf in that department. I'm doing it for Him. He gave me this life on this planet the least I can do is try to help take care of it. So kudos to the council of the City of York. They are doing a good job.

Hi Helen S You know, I really am allergic to any Government target figures. The supermarkets use excess packaging. The BOGOF offers in supermarkets encourage people to buy more than they need. Most of the Pound shops sell tat stamped "made in the PRC". It gets broken. Just throw it away and buy another piece of tat. Now, here is a blueprint. Write a list before you go shopping. Have rescue animals, a bird table and four pallettes roped together to make a compost heap. There will be no more wasted food. Have a woodstove installed and use all paper and packaging into briquettes to burn on the stove. Everyone one of us can make a huge difference with just a little effort. Best wishes.

Ken Clarke, recycled garbage or what? Tory policies should have gone to landfill many years ago. It is beyond being able to be rehashed into new sounding stuff. It's still garbage that should have been dumped in the 80's. Anyway, silly analogies aside, I am not bad at it. We don't produce very much in the way of waste in our house. Most of the rubbish goes to recycling. I was glad when the local council changed the way we do it, so that it mostly goes in the one bag rather than one for paper and another for metal and plastic. We take the glass ourselves.

Not good at recycling, though it's about to change here with all the underground recycling bins being installed in our village. We have our refuse collected daily, so things are looking up!
