Can I upload photos to Google drive from my iPad?

unlike with Dropbox, I don't see a way to upload photos (or anything else) to Google drive on my iPad. It seems to only allow me to view and download files.

Yes. Many apps including Google Drive support for uploading photos to your Drive. But I recommend you use AirFile app. It is the best app out there supporting not only Google Drive but also many other popular cloud disks.

To expand on Chris' answer - if you use Google Plus and have it auto-upload your pictures those pictures will now also make their way over to your Drive. AND you get all the cool auto-awesoming that G+ does to photos. https://www.google.com/photos/about/?page=auto-awesome
