What Happens In Vegas?

Why do they always say that "what happens in vegas stays in vegas?"?

  • why do they always say that "what happens in vegas stays in vegas?" i hear this a lot and im wondering why.

  • Answer:

It is a pure marketing slogan. The officials of Vegas are painting a picture of a destination without rules. A no holds barred of activity. Nothing could be further from the truth. While Las Vegas is known for it's various options of vice, aside from the gambling, it really isn't any different in terms of debauchery/sinful options than any other major city. In fact, I've found that some of the "clubs" in San Franciso are a lot more "intense" than Las Vegas. Remember, that Las Vegas is highly policed and thus nothing can get too out of control (at least legally). Certain things in Vegas (drugs, prostitution, etc.) are actually illegal, despite the marketing campaigns and what people say. It is hype, "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas"...silly actually. Should be: "What happens in Vegas, ends up on the internet". Be careful not to let the allure and hype of Las Vegas get to you.

It was an ad slogan created for the Las Vegas Tourism and Convention Bureau eight years ago and became a cultural catchphrase. It encapsulates the idea that the city is a mecca for hedonism and nobody "back home" will know how you spent your time there.

it's because something ALWAYS happens in Vegas. Whether it's losing money, winning money, one night stands, or cheating on your significant other, doing something illegal, etc. you dont want what happens in vegas to be spread around the internet or with others you know. it's more fun when you keep it within the crowd of whom you visited Vegas with. you have to go and experience this for yourself.

An advertising company developed the catchy slogan to get people's attention, the meaning nothing in reality

If something goes wrong they don't blab to the Press/TV which created bad publicity. They keep quiet about problems and sort them out without a lot of fuss. They know that they 100% depend on visitors losing their money there gambling. The whiff of a problem drives punters away and then they are in SERIOUS trouble! After all who in their right mind is going to go to a town in the middle of a red hot desert unless there is a good reason (might become a millionaire!) so the locals don't want to spoil the fantasy illusion!
