  Chicago can be pricey, especially if you plan to live near the Loop or North side. A studio in Lakeview, a popular area, costs about $750 a month, not including utilities. A comparable studio in the Loop is closer to $1000 or $1200 a month. Newer places cost more than "vintage" buildings, in general, but they usually have extras like a doorman, pool, exercise facilities, etc. Internet hookup is about $40-50 a month, electric is about $30-40. All the restaurants make it tempting to eat out. Plan on spending about $75-100 on food if you like to eat out. A CTA pass will get you all around the city, so that's a good value.
