Allergic reactions to deodorant - What can I do?

I have the same problem you do with skin sensitivity to perfumes and dyes and I've had years to work this problem over. Today's deoderants are not deoderants, they are deoderants/anti-perspirants. Anti-perspirants block the production of sweat and thus prevent moisture for bacteria to grow. It works by plugging the pores in your armpits. Washing the anti-perspirant out will only exacerbate the problem. The trick is to get the perfumed stuff out, and non-irritating stuff in. I advise against using anything harsh though such as vinegar that was previously suggested because it will dry it out and make it more itchy. Instead, take a shower, shave your pits, then spend 10-15 minutes gently poking out what solids you can. Do not get over-zealous because that's probably what caused your bruising in the first place. Then use a hypo-allergenic deoderant. Honestly, Suave "Fresh" 24-hour protection has worked the best for me (The other flavors and prescriptions I also had reactions to). After you find a brand that doesn't cause "you" irritation, when you shower, wash the stink out, but don't wash too hard as to remove too much of the deoderant out from under the surface of your skin; it is engineered to stay in there.

I also have a terrible time with this. I didn't get the best answer from the first doctor I went to, but when I decided to go to someone else I got a different prescription. Right now I alternate between the prescription deodorant that was given to me and Secret Clinical strength every other day. Changing it up seems to help me.
