  Living there is great, its known as a great place for a night out, but also for its cultural attractions. Cold? Just man up and put a jumper on. Just like any City some places are safer than others, I have lived there for several years now and have never had a problem. Although I have heard of people getting mugged. Public trasport is good with a metro and bus system which cover most of Newcastle, and yes they are fairly reliable, can put up with rain/snow. Entertainment - numerous bars/clubs, galleries, cinemas, ect. What you would expect from any city. Lot of history is the area, there was a fort at Newcastle on Hadrians Wall.
