    El Nino refers to the surface warming of the Equatorial strip of Eastern Pacific Ocean. Along with the pressure build up in the atmosphere called southern oscillation (SO) it is called ENSO. Effect on India if ever is on Monsoon in India. Even the Pacific water is blocked effectively by the large Indonesian islands (notably the 1000 mile long 'Sumatra'). While some claim that it effectively interferes with Monsoon rain pattern in India, the data doesn't indicate so. If ever, the linkage is mild and erratic. However, the Monsoon variation keenly watched in India and its mathematical model take 'El Nino' parameters as inputs. It takes a ('Cray') super-computer to calculate the result of monsoon. 'La Nina' has the opposite effect. Both these are due to the huge upwelling of cold waters from Antarctica shores. Peru coast partly is turned into a desert due to this (absence of moisture laden sea breeze due to land being warm, sending out land breeze onto sea instead).
