What do you need for kid traveling?

Im traveling with an unrelated kid, what do I need?

  • Hi there! my daughter wants to bring her friend to our cruise trip and i said yes. what sort of documentation or permissions for her to be allowed to cruise with us? thanks!

  • Answer:

Also, especially if the child is a pre- or young teen, make sure you and her parents and the kids all discuss what's expected in terms of behavior, curfew, etc., while on the ship. Sometimes parents let kids of that age "run wild", resulting in problems all around. The captain has the option of putting ashore unruly passengers. We just returned from a cruise where the captain was threatening to press charges on return to the US for destruction to property on the ship [we had only sea days left, so they couldn't be debarked]. A ship is just like a small town - if you wouldn't let your kids [especially young girls] run around town unsupervised, then they shouldn't be allowed to on the ship either.

You have to get her parents to notarized permission for her to go. She will also need a passport or if it is a closed loop cruise a birth certificate and a photo ID. The notarized note has to include that you are responsible for her including while on shore excursions too. To get it exactly right, call the cruise company for any details I may have left out.
