Best Mediterranean cruise?

  • Looking to go on a cruise in the summer in the Mediterranean, which cruise line is the best? Ideally, I would like something that covers a lot of Europe, Egypt, and the Greek Isles, ...show more

  • Answer:

Princess has quite a few Mediterranean cruises, but Costa (Italian) has more ships in the Mediterranean and more years of experience there than anyone. I have travelled with Costa and had lovely cruises!

If you want to visit Europe, then Carpe Diem Cruise is right choice for you. They cruise in Montenegro, Croatia and Albania. There are a lot water sports during cruise like water ski, wind surf, kite surf, ultralight flying,….. They do not go very fast and you will not cover a big area, but there is a lot of fun. There are basically 3 levels of cruise line: luxury (best/most expensive) (Example - Crystal), premium (e.g. Celebrity), and mainstream (e.g. Princess at the top of mainstream and Carnival on the lower end of mainstream). If you want the "best" you'll need to go with luxury and pay a lot more for it. FWIW, I took a Princess cruise to the Med. and found the excursions excellent, although our ship rescued a yacht at sea, so our Greek Isle excursion was cancelled. I found the ship overcrowded, long lines, impossible to get a lounge chair at the pool on an at-sea day if you tried after 7 a.m., and I found it very annoying how they nickeled and dimed us with a constant attempt at sell*sell*sell. The question is, would you want to put up with that for decent excursions at a better price? OTOH, I cruised with Crystal, and there were no contant announcements about things on sale, no charging for ice cream sundaes/bottles of water and other things that used to be included on cruises--less crowded and more relaxing. No charge even to use the washers and dryers in the laundry room. However, the cost is approximately double that of a Princess cruise. Re. Egypt - You can also do that separately as a river cruise, which various river cruise lines offer. Viking River Cruises offers an Egypt cruise: http://www2.vikingrivercruises.com/regions/egypt/index.aspx That way you could cover Egypt in a lot of depth if you choose. You'll need to delve into cruise lines' websites and see if you think the intinerary, price, and level of convenience/inconvenience is a match for you.
