How can I make a phone call to a cruise ship?

What happens if you are on a cruise are in a port of call but don't make it back to the ship in time?

  • The ship is sailing, and it will NOT stop, now what???

  • Answer:

I'm a former travel agent so let me offer an answer. If you are not on the ship when it sails, you are on your own. No help from the cruise line. You can either make your way to the next port of call or head for home. Be sure to have plenty of money to buy an airline ticket (one-way last-minute tickets are expensive), and you better have your passport with you. Think "The Amazing Race" without the TV cameras and clues. In other words, you better be on the ship when it sails. This is not a great vacation story to look back on.

If you are on a cruise ship company run shore excursion, they will wait for you to return before disembarking. If you are anywhere else, they will ask on board the ship multiple times if you are on board, but they will only wait for about 5-10 minutes after the "back-on-board" time before they leave you. People get left all the time, happens every time I go on a cruise. It's up to you at that point to take a flight to the next port of call to catch back up with the ship. Don't miss the ship. Ever.

Now it is your responsibility to get yourself to the next port, at your own expense. There is an agent of the ship at the harbor who may be able to advise you - that person's contact information is on the daily activity sheet, so it's a good idea to take it off the ship with you. The ship will wait as long as it can, but between the harbor's rules and the time it takes to get to the next port, when it has to go, it has to go! And for the person who said "they won't leave without you, they take a head count" - yes, they take a head count, they do know who they've left behind, but go search "cruise ship leaving people behind" on YouTube!

It depends on the situation. If you are on a tour WITH the ship and or one of their companies and you experience a delay they will wait for you. If you are NOT with a ship tour and you just happen to show up after the ship is sailing, it is your responsibility to find alternate transportation to the next port of call to rejoin your ship and it will be at your own expense! That's why they have return to the ship times and they ask that you respect these times because they will leave without you and cannot be held responsible.

I believe they will wait for a certain period of time, and try to get you to come back. Otherwise they will leave, maybe try to contact you, and have you meet them at the next port. I'm not too sure. Hope i helped though.. Word of the wise: Just get back to the ship on TIME! haha

They won't leave without you. They do a head count before leaving port. Making sure everyone is back on board.

It might wait maybe half an hour, but they can't stay forever. They might try calling you through some speakers, but what can they do?Hope it goes well!

Well, hopefully, you have your passports and credit cards with you so you can buy a plane ticket to the next port of call. All of which is at your expense. If you don't, you may be stuck much longer. You will need to contact the nearest US Consulate and try and get some sort of temporary passport so you can travel.

They'll wait about an hour or so and then just leave without you. there is an emergency number that you can call and alert the staff that you'll be late. no clue what happens then
