What is the difference between an ocean liner and a cruise ship?

  • Answer:

I believe for the most part they are one and the same, but if I had to guess, an "ocean liner" could be considered a larger, more robust vessel, designed for transatlantic travel, can be at sea for longer lengths of time, and can withstand bad weather better than perhaps a smaller ship that was designed for island hopping, and one that doesn't sail that many miles away from land.

An ocean liner is designed for trans- Atlantic voyages like the Queen Mary. A cruise ship is made for many stops in one voyages as oppose to one long voyage.
