What should we take on a cruise?

Looking into a two week Panama Canal cruise in october, what cruise line should we take?

  • Norwegian Cruise Line Holland America Line Princess Cruises or a different cruise line. Bigger question, what is the weather like in that region in October?

  • Answer:

We cruised through the Panama Canal on a 10 day cruise on RCCL Legend of the Seas in 1996. in October/November. It was our first time on RCCL (also cruised Carnival and NCL) and have always booked RCCL ever since. The weather was warm during the whole cruise.

WE went a few years ago on Princess and it was great, one of my all time favorite cruises. But I also like Royal Caribbean a lot and do their cruises the most. Holland America is a great line and the one for you if you want to be with a lot of older people., i.e., 50 and above. NCL is OK but I don't care for the "freestyle" cruising. I think it fits the younger people better. A cruise to me is a special activity and I like it better when I have MY table and waiter for dinner. But any of the lines that you mentioned will be good. When we went in November the weather was good except that there were heavy rain showers in Panama. But that is normal Panama weather. They get mega inches of rain in Panama. It didn't stop our tour. It rains heavily a while and then cleared up and was hot and humid again. The Hurricane season ends at the end of October but this year thus far has been very quiet, no hurricanes and very few tropical storms. SO it may be one of those seasons when hurricanes are not a factor.

You can't really trust the weather these days, with it being so variable everywhere. Note that it is hurricane season inthat region until December 1. The cruise lines you've mentioned are all great, but I am partial to Royal Caibbean Cruise LInes. Norwegian has a lot of free-style cruises and Holland America is on the expensive side. You could also go with Carnival (not sure of spelling). Check with your travel agent or on-line to see what deals or specials are on offer. Ragardless which cruise line you go with , it is a fabulous vacation. Enjoy!

The best prices that I have found overall are from www.cruisequick.com. HOWEVER they do not hold your hand. What I mean is that you need to know what cruise you want, what ship, date and category. You cannot call them, they do not answer a phone. They are internet based only, completely legitimate, and offer a bonus or discount that most other agents don't offer. They work on a flat fee profit and are completely automated. They do answer emails promptly. Their site explains how they work. I have used them for years, without any problems. They offer free price quotes via email that include all port fees, taxes etc. Happy Cruising !
