Well, your question is already not a good one. Engineer or anything ? Either you are a qualified Engineer or anything. You would not start as an Engineer onboard a cruise ship. You need naval schooling for Engineers and then you start as an Engine Cadet and need to work your way through the ranks. I am not sure what mechanical engineering is suppose to tell me. Sounds like you would work as a fitter.

I can't say for sure, but I'm pretty sure that you need a minimum number of year's experience in the field you want to apply for. I know a chef has to have a minimum of 5 years experience in a certain type of restaurant before he/she can even apply to work on a cruise ship. Go to a few of the cruise line's websites and look at career opportunities. I'm sure they have the requirements there somewhere. Just to let you know, most cruise line employees that work on the ships serve at least 3 months at a time with very little contact to home. Then you get a brief vacation period and start again so if you have a strong family life it can be very tough emotionally.
