i can solve your problem! go to Colorado State University!!! i'm currently a student here and could not possibly love it any more if i tried!!! i'm an equine science major specializing in reproduction. there are tons of classes on repro, training, therapeutic riding, disease, foaling management, manure management (it's fun i'm in it lol!), farrier, judging, and TONS more! CSU has the top equine science program in the country and like the #2 or 3 vet school. if you want to be a vet, you'd get your bachelors in equine science then apply to CSU vet school. it was my dream to come here and i LOOOVE it!!! i looked at sweet briar but it's all english from what i was told. out of state tuition for CSU with no scholarships or financial aid is about $15,000 a semester. but with scholarships and/or financial aid it's not too bad. if there's anything you want to know about it you can email me and ask. i'll be happy to brag...i mean...tell you all about it. the professors are truly amazing. they go so incredibly far out of their way to do everything they can to help you. there are also plenty of opportunities to ride. here's the link to the website www.colostate.edu take a look and enjoy! go rams! EDIT: p.s. come live in texas!!! there are PLENTY of horse opportunities there! it's where i'm from and my family has a horse facility where we breed, train, and show cutting horses there. it's like a dream come true!

I'm a sophomore also and have the same questions and goals and stuff! I really want to be a horse vet and own my own barn own day and be an Olympic rider! Some horse colleges in VA are: Hollins College, Virginia Intermont College, Virginia Tech, Averett University (I REALLY want to go there!!!) I've heard Ohio State has a good equine studies/equestrian program. I am also looking on this website: http://www.uscollegesearch.org/equestrian-and-equine-studies-/-horse-management-colleges.html for equine colleges. Some of the colleges on their don't have an equine/equestrian program though....werid. But I found alot of good ones on there. Good luck!

I suggest you keep your options open, because as you learn more, your may change your mind. Be open to that. I don't know much about careers in equine bio-mechanics, but doesn't Michigan State have a program for that? Go visit and ask them lots of questions about what sort of job you would be qualified for, how many of their graduates actually get jobs, how much schooling is required. As for the others, here is a possibility that will allow you to keep your options open and explore the possibilities. This is not a recommendation, because I don't know you that well, it's just a thought. Go to a college with an equine major. Choose the most competitive, hardest to get into school because you will have a better chance of being accepted to vet school if you show you have come from a rigorous academic environment. Take extra science courses, whatever MSU requires of students entering vet school. During summer break, take classes for certification in massage therapy. Some are only 2 week courses or so. I don't know anything about certification for herbal stuff, and the only people I know who do acupuncture are vets, but you may be able to get certification in other things like acupressure, reiki, etc. in a few weeks. They will be a great addition to your resume whatever direction you go. With this plan, you explore all possibilities without shutting any doors. You'll have the pre-vet requirements in case you decide to go to vet school, you'll have the equine management in case you don't, and you'll have additional certifications that will only help in either situation. So you can change your mind at some point and still have options. Unlike me. I was sure I would go to vet school, so I only took pre-vet classes. Then I decided not to go. Didn't even apply. Now I have an almost useless degree. Good luck to you!

Come to Kentucky! :D Here's a picture I took of a magazine I get, that does highlights on things around here in Kentucky, and they had a story on colleges with equine programs, it lists their names and what they offer. http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f273/Ehawlz/IMG_0733.jpg I'm pretty sure Midway has a riding team, and it's supposed to be a great college. It is an all girls, though so something to keep in mind. It's supposed to be great if you want to go into physical therapy work with horses. This is the one I've personally chose is Asbury, for the Equine Facilitated Therapy: http://www.asbury.edu/majors/hper/equine-center Plus, I can also minor in Equine Management. It looks to be like a wee bit of a bible thumper school... but I don't care. Also, my aunt is a professor at Michigan State. :D I can't really remember what she teaches, though... Just that she fails about half of the students that take her class. :o I think it's something having to do with pre med, maybe?
