What did the Leauge of Nations do the same as United Nations?

How were the United Nations and the Leauge of NAtions similar?

  • Answer:

The League of Nations was a precursor to the UN. They are both what political scientists would call a Collective Security arrangement. They also have a pretty abysmal track record at their intended purpose of preventing war. Most of the time, the UN doesn't intervene at all unless one of the five permanent security council members has a stake in it, and in the event that they do get involved, it's usually just enough involvement to prolong the conflict and multiply the fatalities and not enough to actually stop it. The problem with collective security is the same problem with a large government in control of a large population - there are far too many interests to cater to, making peaceful resolution impossible, and military cooperation difficult. There's a reason why most of the "happiest" countries in the world are ones with a low population, and why most Americans are more satisfied with their state government than the federal government.
