Jehovah’s Witnesses: Why is Thanksgiving a pagan holiday and when are you allowed to eat the turkey?

"Satan no longer occupies the plump bird"? Rofl! -Where did you get that ridiculous idea from? We can eat whatever food we like, on any day we please. You do make me laugh. ^_^ Poor turkey eh? ... either way, he loses out

Thanksgiving isn't a pagan holiday. It's a national holiday.

Thanksgiving is a national holiday. I've never heard of it referred to as "pagan". And yes you are right we can eat turkey any day of the week or year that we choose, including the day called "Thanksgiving". My family always has eaten turkey and at this time of year it is cheap. People are off work so if families gather together to eat a meal. What of it? That also is permissable. I'm going to be attending a family reunion this coming week, All of my family were raised as Witnesses although not all of them have stayed Witnesses. I'm sure that we will probably eat turkey at least one of the 4 days we will be together, and my conscience is not offended by eating turkey. Am I celebrating Thanksgiving? Well I'm not going to be decorating the house with Pilgrims and Indians, I'm not going to be any more thankful than I am EVERY day of the year for the bounty that my God supplies. I feel that EVERY DAY I should reflect and tell him how thankful I am for what he has done for me. I will just be eating a meal with my family. And I will be thankful that we all arrived safely and that we all have some time off work and have the chance to get together and love one another as we always love to do. Is what we are doing "pagan?" Or even "nationalistic"? no. Might someone else think that? Possibly. Let them think what they will. I'm not celebrating anything other than being with my family and having a nice 4 day weekend to do it in.

LOL I can't wait for my devilturkey much better than a devilduck which floats in my tub avoiding the evil bubblemaker We were pressured by family to attend thanksgiving when I was a teen my Elder father and entire family ate devilturkey..I wonder if that is what happened to me and why I was prompted to leave the Witnesses? I will have to ponder that Sherry B.- Will you talk and socialize with the part of your family who are no longer Witnesses or will you shun them like you are required to as a good witness?

ONLY MY MOTHER DIDNT WEAR A CORSAGE TO THE RESTAURANT ON MOTHERS DAY....... AND THERE WOULD BE EMBARRASSMENT WHEN WE ACCIDENTLY MET OTHER JW FAMILIES IN THE RESTAURANT.......... WHO WERE ALSO..... NOT..... CELEBRATING MOTHERS DAY................. THE FLOWERS WERE ALWAYS KEPT IN MY PARENTS ROOM....... IN THE EVENT BROTHERS / SISTERS / ELDERS CAME OVER THE HOUSE........ I WAS A JW FROM THE AGE OF 6 TO 21............. PLLLLLEEEAAASSSEEEE..............JUST BE HONEST FOR ONCE.............
