Why do you celebrate Thanksgiving?

Why do we celebrate Thanksgiving day as though the Indians gave us the land as a gift?

  • Why do we celebrate Thanksgiving day as though the Indians gave us the land as a gift?

  • Answer:

That's not the reason we celebrate Thanksgiving. The first winter for the Pilgrims was very harsh. The land was unforgiving, and the Pilgrims would probably not have survived if it was not for the kindness and compassion of the Native Americans living nearby. Surviving the winter allowed the Pilgrims to plant seed and in the fall reap an abundant harvest. The celebration commemorates that, not the land later given/purchased from the Native Americans.

Did not know that was why we celebrate Thanksgiving. Thought it was for the good harvest and the indians were invited like guest to dine with the workers.

Thanksgiving is a day of celebration of a good year, and a successful harvest.

That's not the intent of Thanksgiving day. They didn't give us land, the settlers then took it, not right, but they did. The reason the holiday was formed was for the food and kind of friendship the Indians offered at that time. They were thankful to be alive, be healthy, etc. If the Indians had know what our ancestors were going to do to them, I doubt it would have been so peaceful.
