Can you be autistic and have very mild sensory issues?

How can people help themselves if they have some mild psychological issues?

  • Without any professional help other than freely available material from the internet. The are issues that are in early stages.

  • Answer:

"These are issues that are in early stages".    That right there tells me that you do, in fact, need to see a professional.  There are usually free clinics that can help you out with that. You won't be able to diagnose yourself with just information on the internet so you'll never be able to actually treat yourself that way.   It's entirely irresponsible for you to believe that by just reading what's available on the internet you can take care of your mental illness.  If it was that easy every schizophrenic would already be doing it and I'd not have anyone to treat.

The issue here is that many psychological issues impair your judgement.  When you suffer from them, it's hard or impossible to evaluate your condition and progress.   Without feedback, you can't be sure if your process is helping you or if you are deluding yourself.   My suggestion is to find somebody outside that you trust to give you honest feedback about your efforts.  If you don't want to visit a mental health professional, perhaps a religious advisor or a trusted family friend.  If addiction is part of your problem, then a sponsor at a support group can be this person.  You need somebody who is willing to give you unpleasant truths when need be, but also encourage you to do what you need to do to help your problem.  You need to give this person trust to see what you don't.

Imagine the advice you would give to someone who had your exact same problem. Take that advice. No one knows you, or your needs, better than you yourself. Keep in mind that the advice you give yourself may include the suggestion that you seek professional help. Good luck!

I read this question a number of ways. One is "how can people with some mile psychological issues help themselves (to overcome them)?" That's pretty easy. You can read books on various therapies, such as the cognitive/behavioral/emotional/rational alphabet soup. You can do self-hypnosis and dreamwork and meditation and self-psychoanalysis. You can even make up your own therapies. I did all this to overcome shyness, and it worked. Another is "how can people help themselves given that they have some mild psychological issues?" This is hideously difficult because even mild psychological issues affect one's thinking, including the thinking needed to overcome them. Essentially, they protect themselves, and the symptoms keep them alive. I don't know any easy way to do it. I did it when my life had gotten so terrible that I figured that even getting better would be worth it.
