I write a song for someone's rhythm but need to protect my lyrics?

it's he's rhythm but my lyric

Answer:
Yes you need to copyright the lyrics separate from the melody (You cannot copyright a rhythm, or a chord, or a chord progression). But as a matter of personal interest I would encourage you to look at using "copyleft", or "creative commons" license. They simply fit better with art much better than corporate style copyright that hasnt done any favors for bettering humanity, helping/protecting artists, or making more diverse or enjoyable art. I have listed the links below for some interesting reading on the topic.
