Good question. There are staccato's but they aren't short. (although there are some cases where it might happen). Staccato's should be articulated DOT. If you say DOT it is really hard to say it short. There is also an ending to the note. In classical, notes are more like DAH. There is no 'ending'. Accents usually are at the top of the contour's. And emphasis should be on the off beats. Doo-Wah. (accenting the Wah)
