Alto sax or bari sax?

  • Alto sax or bari sax? I'm in grade ten, and I've played alto for like, five years, and I love it, but I kind of want to try out playing bari sax. I love playing low bass line ...show more

  • Answer:

Try the Tenor sax. I've played it for 3 years and it sometimes has the melody, and sometimes has the harmony. It's in every Jazz band. If not, go for the bari sax. You can still go back to playing the alto next year! Also, for lower instruments, you have to make believe you are saying the word "Toe" When you play so it comes out low. I don't think bari sax gets the melody often, it's a Low Reed instrument. Alto would be better for either concert or band, and Tenor or Bari would be better for Jazz Band. The fingerings are the same. and yes, you're gonna need a lot of air to get to the lower notes.
