Look for a small Peavey, they used to call the small individual ones pignose. Used would be the best way to go for a beginner. Don't spend too much if you are not yet "into" it.

ampegs are awsome but those are more for intermediate levels(cuz they're expensive) , i started with a 30W behringer 8" really if your jusst beginning anything really cheap is good. fender ibanez, behringer. i like behringer because theyre cheap and have a good tone to them. so any amp you can get around 15-50 watts its good. and if your asking also for a begginer bass (description) any bass is good, maybe get a fender squire starter set or ibanez it comes with a book, dvd, amp, bass, strap, a few other things too. hope it helped and have fun!!!
