Kwanzaa is an African American cultural holiday but just because it's about African American culture doesn't mean that others can't celebrate it. It's open to being celebrated by all kinds of people, so people really shouldn't mind if you bring your boyfriend or your friends. It's celebrated with family and friends and each nigt you light the corresponding candle. Each day/candle has a name in Swahili that has a certain significance. An example would be Imani, which means faith. Gifts are also given throughout the holiday but they're not supposed to be store bought, because people believe that if you are giving a gift that matters, it should be hand made because of the time taken for it etc. Other than the certain things that are Kwanzaa specific, like the candle holder, the kinara and the candles, you would celebrate it like any other holiday, by having fun and telling stories and enjoying the company of family and friends.
