Is Lasik safe and does it work?

Does LASIK eye surgery work for people with a stigmatism?

  • I would like to get contacts, but I think the LASIK will pay off in the end (i.e not having to constantly buy new contacts the worse my eyes get over time) How much will it cost ...show more

  • Answer:

I had my eyes done two years ago after wearing contact lenses for 15 years and i used to have astigmatism too ! it's the best thing I have ever done ;) I'm afraid I can't help you with the cost cause I'm from a another country.. and prices differ .. But be sure to choose a well known doctor and hospital or medical center and follow the doctor's instructions carefully and as for your mothers it sometimes happens and she should go and do them again I know a lot of people who did good luck :)

LASIK eye surgery is generally considered to be a safe and effective method of treating near-sightedness, far-sightedness, and astigmatism and millions of people undergo this procedure every year throughout the world. No surgery is without risks or complications, however, and this must be understood and accepted before making the decision. The most common side effects of LASIK eye surgery are dry eyes and glare. The incidence of these are debated between proponents and opponents of the surgery. The FDA considers the risks to be low enough to approve the technology required for LASIK (microkeratomes, excimer lasers, etc.) Safety can be increased by selecting a skilled surgeon using the best technology. Studies show that experience is one of the most important factors in selecting a surgeon. There is a really good San Diego Lasik website that has lots of info and some very informative Lasik articles. You can certainly get Lasik with Astigmatism. Expect around $1K, but lasik costs vary across various geographies and doctors. I've created a blog with info on the types of procedures, doctor recommendation, and complication rates: http://www.wika-lasik.com
