How much is a walmart eye exam?

  • Answer:

Wal Mart prices are dependent on the optometrist who has the lease. Most are quite inexpensive around $30-60 for routine vision and for contact lens fittings they can range. It usually depends on the difficulty of your lens fit (single vision, toric, multi focal fits, and rgps). I would worry less about the cost and more about the efficiency of the eye doctor. Make sure they spend ample time with you and you receive a quality eye examination, its worth the extra money that they may charge. Lower prices for exams usually means that the eye doctor now must see more patients. Usually when quantity goes up quality in turn goes down. Be smart, do your research and take care of your eyes.

Despite popular opinion, the eyeglasses and lenses at Walmart are NOT cheap. Not compared to the internet, anyway. I'd suggest to get your eyes examined there and then take home a copy of your prescription (which you are allowed to do, and most people don't realize). Then go online and shop around. I really liked RLE because their sales reps are super responsive and I got to speak with their optician on the phone. They are family owned and operated (based out of CT) and quality is really high. Their lens selection online is super extensive, and the specialize in replacing prescription lenses into your old frames. They do sell frames though - like Ray-Ban, Sama Eyewear, and Oakleys, but their website doesn't show everything. Best bet is to email [email protected] if you want a quote or need to ask them a question. I asked them to quote me for Kate Spade frames (which weren't on the website) and they were able to get me a really great price and then put in my new Rx lenses for $25. Because they are a smaller company, you get great customer care. I'm happy. (Maybe browse around the Walmart selection and try them on and see which ones you like? Then you can email them the ones you want and you know they'll look good because you've had a chance to try them on in real life.)

It isn't necessarily the same at every Walmart across the country. Call your local one and ask them.
