How to Improve webSite’s Ranking (SEO?

Do non-profit websites need SEO?

  • How would one convince a non-profit that they need SEO? Do they even *need* it?  Are there examples of non-profits doing SEO? I personally would love to work for a non-profit and provide my SEO skills but it seems like a such a niche market and I rarely see non-profits looking for SEO specialists.

  • Answer:

What would be the difference between SEO for a profit- versus non-profit-?  I mean, if they have a website, they want people to go there, otherwise why have it?  If they are non-profit, they want donations, not purchases, but if they think that's not the same thing they're going to go out of non-business soon...

Yes, non-profits need SEO just like any business does that's trying to find new customers online. Many of them lack the marketing budgets to promote themselves properly which makes SEO even more important. I would imagine that selling SEO to non-profits is a difficult task.  My company, http://Mediacause.org offers free SEO services to non-profits by using a network of volunteers.  We have found that many SEO's are willing to volunteer a few hours of their time to help these organizations out in exchange for the experience and exposure.

If the non-profit needs to rank organically for targeted keywords then yes.  Absoultely they would.  Consider potential donors or prospective community activists that need to find your site.  Target those demographics and behavioral searches to gain fresh traffic related to the non-profit. In fact, many SEO's may provide services for a non-profit at discounted rates or at cost to partner with a reputable organization.

Of course non-profit websites need SEO. Why are they develop a website for non-profit?--Want people to access to know their ideas, to promote their intensions more popular, to get more donations. SEO is a good way to bring into effect to their goal. Why don't? It's the same with they using other aways to promote their organization.

I think it's possible that non-profits tend to be less aware of SEO and the need for SEO on their website. Nonprofits tend to be attuned to "social media" because the nature of most nonprofits is to establish great personal relationships with people to encourage donations and partnerships. Social media aligns with the type of work nonprofits usually do more closely than SEO does. However, non-profit organizations definitely need SEO - they need to get people to their websites to educate them about the services the nonprofit offers, and they need to get donations, as mentioned. The education piece is very important for nonprofits in particular in my opinion, because often the biggest problem they face is not lack of donations or supporters but lack of awareness.

There is always a purpose of a website either it is for profit or not. For example I have a website where I will post my personal research on medicine, technology or whatever. Question is why I posted it here even if it is not for sale? Definitely I want people to see it and I can make more people to visit my website using SEO.

I agree that non-profits could really use SEO just as any business for-profit requires that. People are online ALL the time. Anyone who is thinking about donating or participating in any way with an organization will most likely look them up online. If they do not have the exact address they will simply perform a query on any search engine. However, those who are not working on soliciting online donations etc. are not as likely to run after SEO as much. I do feel it's still necessary but not as much.

are you referring to non-profit organization websites? Yes, the goal of SEO is to boost a website's presence and in that sense non-profit websites can still benefit from it - it helps non-profits reach their intended audiences.

Any website owner needs to do SEO if he wants more organic traffic. Very few websites rank high in Google, without doing SEO. Nonetheless, most non profit organisations don't know the benefits of doing SEO, and they ignore it. If you want to convince them that they need SEO, you have to show them what they can achieve by doing SEO...at least on-page SEO. Show them how they can create a community and grow their organization
