How do I get a job in Human Resources?

    I would suggest that you attend a local SHRM (Society of Human Resources Management) meeting in your city. It's a good place to network. You could also take some HR Classes at your local University. Human Resources encompases a broad area of knowledge that includes both Federal and State employment laws, companpy policies and procedures, and the ability to handle confidential information. It can be a very rewarding career. Good luck

It's hard to get started in HR without any previous HR related experience, which sounds like the position you are in. It is good to hear that you are aiming for an entry level position to start. Expect the entry level salary to be much lower than you would receive in an entry level position in accounting or economics. When I started in HR I had just graduated with a BA in Human Resource Development. If you haven't taken any HR courses in school I would recommend taking a few classes or attending a SHRM certificate program. There are a lot of laws that you'll need to know. Also, when you interview you'll need to have a good answer to why you want to work in HR. "Because I like working with people" isn't a good answer. It is important that you like working with people, but if that is only reason your interested in an HR career then I would really recommend a different career choice.

remember you cant be friends with anyone you work with if in hr because you might be told to fire them.
