Anyone know the history of the Easter Bunny?

What does the Easter Bunny really have to do with Easter? Eggs represent the trinity and new life but a bunny

  • I'd like to know the history behind the Easter Bunny and if anyone has any religious symbolism to it. Thanks and Happy Easter!

  • Answer:

Christians in the early church, wanted to celebrate the resurrection day of the Lord Jesus. They probably took the Pagan Holiday (Ostara) and "redeemed it" by transforming the ideas into whole new meanings. The idea of celebrating is not bad. It is the same way that Christians have taken drinking songs, and have written new words to the familiar tunes so that the people in the culture would be comfortable with the transforming of one idea to a new idea. Followers of Christ (Christians) took the idea of New Life, New Birth, or Transformation, and gave new meaning to the egg, new baby chicks and bunnies... etc. It seems like they took the Ostara celebration and rolled Christmas and Easter into one wonderful, meaningful celebration. Both Christmas (New Life) and Easter (Transformed Life) are worth celebrating. Jesus was born to die for our sins and to conquer death so that we could live. Which is more important? Christmas—the birth of the infant Jesus? Or Easter—the death and resurrection of the man, God’s Son? Both are essential—and both are clear evidence of the Father’s love for us.
