How much money do lawyers make per year? (on average)

How much money do lawyers make a year ?? good ones and crappy ones .?

  • I was think of going to law school in ucla and needed this imformation.

  • Answer:

Going to an ivy league school will definitely help you break the 100 - 200k barrier, possibly even get you in the top tax bracket. Crappy lawyers can be anywhere from unemployed to 50k, and the top tier can get into the 1 million a year range. A lot of lawyers multiply their money by investing, so keep that in mind. It really is all connections and creativity, almost every lawyer will say that they don't use what they learned in law school.

Hey Carlos, Starting salary at a top firm is approx. $160k/year (in a big market like NY or LA). Crappy lawyers will make minimum wage at a non-lawyer job. Like any profession, there's a wide range of talent that makes up a wide range of salaries. There are fewer jobs at the top than there were a few years ago, and average salary is most likely decreasing because of this. If you're thinking about law school, you should take all of this into consideration. UCLA is a great school, so if you've already been accepted, that's a good place to go (especially if you want to practice in LA). Don't rest on your laurels, though, and work hard to ensure a job after graduation. Good luck!
