Answer:
There are a few office jobs that you can start with File Clerk - you will be basically just helping out and keeping track of paperwork, must be detail oriented. Receptionist - if you have great people skills this is good. Mail Room - you will be basically sorting mail and delivering to different departments, you will get to know a lot of people in a large company. Runner - you will be basically moving paper and other things from department to department, again you'll get to know everyone. Junior Secretary/Administrative or Office Assistant - for this you will need some computer skills, the rest they will teach you.

Reception, reception, reception. Depends tho...how good are your people skills? Phone skills? I mean, you should have gotten at least a little experience in the retail/food industry. Ugh...I don't blame you for wanting to leave that crap behind. Nothing like going to class/home/friends with your hair smelling like a greasy spoon joint. Check out a local temp agency. They can probably land you a few temp jobs for days at a time so that you can up your office experience. That's what I did when I went from foodservice to office work. I'm so glad I did. Now I can email/play on answers in between tasks instead of doing sidework and standing outside with old waitresses on their smoke breaks. Yea, I hate foodserivice. Thanks for reminding me how lucky I am to have gotten outta that craphole. Good luck to you!

What about if you do a small administration paper to put on your resume?

you can try applying for filing - thats how i started. Or you can try applying for a receptionist - all you have to do is answer the phone politely, understandable and professional. State your qualifications on your resume like how many wpm you can type, fast learner, 10-key and calculator, cash handling. Good Luck!
