How Can We Protect Our Water?

MacBook: Is there anything I can use to protect my laptop from water/coffee spills?

Being the biggest enemy of my laptop, I spilled water on it twice and had to change the trackpad once (got lucky the second time). Is there anything I can use to make the trackpad part water-proof? I found this Moshi Palmguard but I am not sure it can protect the trackpad from water.
