  • Answer:

It probably won't impact your PA salary much at all because as a PA you would not really being doing tasks that a PTA would be doing. You might have a hiring edge if you became an orthopedic PA, but you are still going to be paid a PA salary not some combined or higher wage. Many PAs have a wealth of experience across the board, and all start at around the same beginning salary. Medicine does not work like that where collecting licenses keeps adding $. PAs have a masters degree (for the most part) and that is what gets them their income.

I hope you realize that you need a bachelor's degree in order to be accepted into a PA school. PTA is associate (I believe) and PA is a master's program. These are two completely different jobs. I do not believe you will make more money if you combine these two since many people are PTA's before they are PA's. You will make more money as a PA. Get a PTA license, work on your bachelor's, apply to a PA school, and get a job as a PA.

What do you plan on doing with these two licenses? Most jobs are going to be full time, and normal office hours, with PT clinics potentially open a bit later. I guess I just don't see a huge point in getting the two licenses unless your area has only part time work available for both positions. I'd much rather have one license, a full time job, and benefits. Edit: A PTA license isn't going to affect your PA salary too much. Other than both dealing with patients, it isn't direct career experience. To me, it's like saying that you are going to get a nursing degree so that you can get paid better as a doctor.
