India: How do I kick-start my freelancing career as a writer?

  • I have written various articles for peanuts thinkign it would bring more projects. But considering the amount of effort I put in, the pay is insulting. I want to take freelancing projects that pay enough for the professional work. Any advice?   (It would be much appreciated if Indian freelance writer could answer, as they know the market and audience well)

It's not about writing various articles, it's about the clients you choose. Talking about the Indian market, it might be difficult to find high paying client at the beginning since their is so much competition out there and most clients are on the lookout to get work done for free. I would recommend first you build your own portfolio i.e setup a blog with your best articles and post on continuous basis. Further research about the Indian market and International market by visiting various sites such as Freelancer, oDesk, Elance. Also pay visit to some of the local sites. Always look for the clients who have good reputation and you think might be worth writing for.
