Christmas Traditions?

  • My husband and I have been married for 3 years and this will be our 4th Christmas. We are wanting to start our own Christmas Traditions this year, but I am having a hard time thinking ...show more

  • Answer:

You could buy a nice Christmas decoration for each of you each year and label it with the year. When and if you have kids, you could do the same thing for them each year so when they leave home, they have 20 or so really nice decorations to start Christmas with on their own tree. In my area, we have a street with lots of decorated houses so every year, my family have a night where we walk up and down the street looking at the pretty lights. That's a nice tradition. If you like cooking you could have a night every year where you bake lots of Christmas biscuits or cakes to give to a local shelter. Altruistic and a nice tradition!

Choose a charity to give to or help out. I wouldn't try to force a tradition into your Christmas. The best traditions come "naturally" because you love to do it over and over again. Try different things each year and see what sticks. Maybe you can walk down the street singing carols together... Merry Christmas!

Who's to say what a Christmas can or cannot be? My family usually watches old movies and eats fondue all day long, and we usually decorate our tree listening to some certain CD's, and we always listen to Alias's Restaurant for thanksgiving. Really you need to just find what you love to do and just call it a tradition, Make up your own. When all else fails wing it :) Good Luck and Happy Holidays

Well the tradition at our house for the last 18 yrs has been we eat breakfast and have hot cocoa(usually cinammon rolls) before opening gifts. then we have also made it a tradition to never leave the house on Christmas unless an emergency comes up.Only one so far my grandfather was in the hospital and went to see him. Merry Christmas

Hi Mandy.. That's such a wonderful idea honey..it really is!! How about the "open 1-gift on Christmas eve" tradition.. Or "visit one of his friends/family one year and yours the other" tradition.. Or "A long-walk in the park Christmas eve" tradition.. These are special to me Mandy but your the first to ask for ideas, use them..:-)) Christmas is my very favorite time of the year, I like this time of the year because it is so beautiful with the snow and ice on the mountains and trees.. One more hon.. "A candle lite for the one needing prayer of luck for the new-year". This one is the most important to me.. Good Luck my friend..Your a very special person..:-))))) Happy Holidays..

In my family we open our presents on Christmas Eve. Then we open "Santa's gifts" and have Christmas Dinner on Christmas Day. You could have a tradition of stating one thing that has happened during the year that has made you grateful for your family. You can make a family advent calender where one member of your family opens a door on the calender each day. Draw names from a basket and the name drawn can receive the "first gift" of Christmas. Have an extra special gift for this. No one can open a present until after the family "hug" where every member hugs the other family members. Talk about spreading the love.
