How long do you have to go to college to be a receptionist?

I dont know if I want to go to college, Would sticking to a stable job as a receptionist be okay?

  • I dont even know why Im asking this when ive set my mind to it. I dont wana go to college. I wana work. But what are your opinions?

  • Answer:

I see you asked this under medical, which leads me to believe you are a medical receptionist. Yes, anything that you can make a decent living at and be content with is always okay to do. There is no formula, education or otherwise, that says what you have to do with your career. If you want to broaden your horizons at your workplace, you might ask if you can train on the job to do something else in addition to your present duties. Something like medical coding or medical transcription. It is truly much more valuable to have experience over formal education in these particular areas, and they generally pay a little better than regular reception duties. By doing this, you're getting training while building a reputation for being a go-getter and putting years of allegiance to your workplace under your belt. But never feel pressured into doing something you're not ready to do or willing to put the effort into, especially because college is so expensive. You are your own drummer, so march on! Good Luck!

I would love to explain to you the advantages of college. I can tell you as an admissions rep we have a job that helps you make a lot more money in life. Look at it this way, if you can go to school and make 3x as much as most people without a degree... why wouldn't you do that? If you are seriously thinking about school, give me a call or email me. I'd love to help you out. Even if its just to talk about it. Matt Salem International University 304 326 1284

College isn't for everyone, I understand. But honestly, I'd at least find an entry job and slowly work your way up. A receptionist doesn't have much room for growth. Just a heads up, the higher up you want to go in your career, the more schooling you'll have to obtain, sometimes it can be just an associates degree. You want to look competitive to your employers, sometimes it's a particular skill you have and then sometimes it how many degrees you have. Good luck.

You might be happy now, but years from now, when you are working for people younger and dumber than you, you may regret this choice. If you don't go to college, you limit your options. If you go to college, you can still turn around an be a receptionist, if you really feel it will make you happy.

I earned my bachelor's degree 9 yrs ago and I am working at a big corporation. I still "don't know what to do with my life". I am considering going back to school to specialize in something specific. I went to college right after HS without knowing what I wanted to do, what I wanted to be. I think it will be good for you to take a year or two to yourself before deciding on if and where to go and what to study. You may think college isn't for you now but you may change your mind later when you realize what you want to do but that job you're looking for requires some sort of degree or training. Then it's the right time to apply! Good luck!

Thanks!

Sure it would, if that's all you want to accomplish in your life. College isn't for everyone, although you may find out in a few years that you do want to go to college. University is a great opportunity to find yourself, you have the option of taking courses that really interest you, there are youth interest groups. You will find the most interesting people on campus and you may even find out a little bit about yourself as well. I encourage you to go to college, life is what you make it so why not try and make it something worth remembering. Even if you don't go for a degree you'll have a good time and make good memories. Hope this helps
