How long will it take for me to become an RN?

If I become an RN (registered nurse) first will it not take as long to become a doctor?

  • It takes about 12 years to become a doctor, I've heard. If I become I get my bachelor of science in nursing and become an RN first will it not take as long to become a doctor?

  • Answer:

well, although they are in the same field...becoming a doctor will still take a long time. While in school to become a nurse you take less general classes, however you do take a lot of science, therefore you will have to go back to school to finish up your general ed that is required to become a doctor, however you will have some general ed done.

I have wondered that myself, and according to the people above it doesn't really help. Although, look into a physicians assistant. It is similiar to doctor in that they prescribe meds, carry out treatment plans.. Here is a good explanation. http://www.colby.edu/health.serv/pa.html
