How old must you be to work in a nursing home ?

I wanted the same at your age, I got a job through phoning round all my local nursing/care homes and asking for a job, some will take you on at 16 but with care legislation now you need qualifications before working with residents, good luck - its a great job xx

Most decent care homes prefer you to be 18 and have some qualifications such as a diploma in health and social care OR NVQ 2 or 3 . However you may get a job as a cleaner, kitchen assistant or activities helper at 16. I would suggest going to college and pursuing NVQ 2 in health and social care as that will keep you busy for a year and then do your 3. It would not hurt to phone a few nursing homes and ask to speak to the manager, tell him or her that you want to be a carer and how would be best for you to proceed to doing that role.
