  • Answer:

I am a speech therapist working with children currently. It is not hard to get a job as a speech therapist. It might be a little more difficult with only your Bachelors, as many states will not let you practice with just your Bachelors. The career is WELL worth the time. Everyday I see how I am helping my students - how they are able to communicate better. If your passion is to help people, then speech is a good area. As for pay, with your Bachelors, it's about 35,000. After your Masters, it of course goes up. It usually starts about 42-45000 beginning and then goes up with each year of experience. However, to keep your certification you have to complete CEUs (Continuing Education Units) which takes time and money. However, it keep you up to date in the speech area. Keep in mind that a speech pathologist may work almost anywhere - schools, hospital settings and can even set up their own private clinics. Depending on what you want to do, you can specialize in one area for your Masters, such as oral motor disorders, etc.
