What does a nursing career entail?

Choosing a career in nursing?

  • which would be the best career in nursing. Forensic nursing , pediatric nursing , or a registered nurse ?? Also what would i need to get , to get on those career path .

  • Answer:

Before you can specialize in something, say pediatric nursing, you must become an RN. So start there. You can choose a 2-year RN program or a 4-year BSN program. The BSN gives you a college degree and prepares you for advanced study for other specialties, but you still start working as an RN. Nurses have a lot of room for choice in their careers. The "best" nursing career is one that you like. Going through clinical rotations in your RN/BSN program will give you a chance to try out some of the specialties. The highest-paying nursing jobs are: -- nurse anesthetist (pays over $100,000/year) - requires a master's in nursing (MSN) -- nurse practitioner - in some states, NPs can run their own clinics, doing basic exams, diagnoses, even prescriptions. Requires an MSN. -- nurse subject matter expert working on hospital software implementation projects. These nurses only need an RN, but also a few years of experience. They basically tell the IT (computer) people how nurses work, how they use the hospital nursing software. They can be hospital employees in the Health Information Management Department or they can work as consultants, traveling to different hospitals locally or around the country. Consultants earn well over $100,000/year.
