Answer:
Hi Miranda, You will need to undergo a Degree Course of the Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) for pursuing a career in Medical Transcription. National American University can be a good school, from where you can get this training. You can then further also join Medical Transcription Companies like iSource or RPJ Atlantic Technologies, Canada. There are many other companies also which you can search from Yahoo and other such search engines. I have heard that Pay Scale is quite good in this field. So Miranda, all the very best for your career.

My sister-in-law took their course and she really loved it. I don't know all the stats as far as how much she gets paid and when she got employed but I have seen a stat on their website that 85% of Career Step grads are employed within their field of study. They also have a webinar about where the jobs are at that may be helpful to you. http://www.careerstep.com/webinar/?uid=ref10077 Another thing to consider is that they partner with hundreds of companies within the industry so when you apply for jobs, they will recognize Career Step! My sister-in-law did say that she was very prepared for the "real world". Career Step uses hours and hours of real doctor dictation so she had real practice before she became employed. I have heard of other schools using dictation that they make up but they speak slowly and clearly which is not the norm. Doctors dictate while eating, in noisy areas of the hospital, some have accents, some are ESL. So practicing with real doctor dictation is the best way to prepare for this kind of work. And employers know and recognize that. I also work in the industry and as far as pay- you should know that medical transcriptionists are paid by production. Usually by the line or word. So the faster you can type, the more money you can make per hour. Career Step has incorporated ways to increase your typing speed into their training. They teach you how to use keyboard shortcuts and have training on typing more accurately and faster. they really do set you up to be successful. The founder of the company was a single mom and did medical transcription to make money yet still be home with her daughter and she wanted to allow other moms to be able to do the same. Anyway good luck with your search and in your training!
