How many previous jobs do you have on your resume?

How many years or past jobs do i list on a resume?

  • PLease help, It's been years since i have udated my resume.

  • Answer:

Technology changes fast. I wouldn't include more than 10 years of jobs. If you have a lot of temporary/consulting work consolidate it to reduce the numbers of entries. If you worked for one agency/company on multiple assignments then place it under the 1 company. I like Dice for technology jobs. It also has some very good resume advice/articles and forums for asking for advice on what to change. You can also use a semi-functional resume that includes significant chronological information.

I listed every job back through college graduation. I left off all the college internships and summer jobs. As for level of detail, I gave a lot of detail for the last 5-10 years and just company, job title and dates for the earlier ones.

Look for resume help on google, you'll find a ton of detailed guides (just don't pay for any, there's some good free ones). As a rule of thumb you want to usually include as much relevant experience as possible so it depends on where you are applying. Try not to leave "gaps" in the time line as it looks suspicious if there's a few years missing between two jobs.
