Can I get a decent IT job with just certifications?

Will cisco certifications alone get you a decent job? or do you also need a degree?

  My friend Randy did not have a degree. But he had a good job. The problem is was not portable. HR does not know the difference between a plumber and a system administrator. All they know some one told them degree. So unless you have a degree, your resume will end up in the wastepaper basket. But some people are savey, they will gladly hire you for less money.
