    You have to be a cop first. Depends on the agency. In a small agency you may be put on CID as soon as youre through with FTO. Larger agencies you will have to work for it. You will need at least 3-5 years as a Uniformed Patrol Officer with a main focus on things like crime. You better write an excellent report, and keep your nose clean. You will want to take classes like Advanced Investigations, Interview Techniques, Advanced Fraud Inv., Homicide, things like that. Your agency will have all the classes you need to take.
